Trini’s Ice Cream Shoppe Brings More Than Just Dessert To Downtown Kenosha

There’s a new ice cream shop in Downtown Kenosha, and it’s serving up creative twists on your favorite summer delicacy. Trini’s Ice Cream Shoppe opened at the beginning of April inside the boba tea shop Smar-Tea’s at 5821 6thAvenue. The owners are a husband and wife duo, David and Britni Trinidad, who wanted to bring fun and positivity to the downtown area. Britni joins us in an exclusive interview to discuss the exciting things she has in store for her delectable new addition to the area.

Q: What made you decide to open a business in Downtown Kenosha?
Britni: The downtown area is growing, and there’s so much happening. It’s exciting to be part of a community that’s constantly evolving and full of energy. The local support, events, and sense of connection really make it the perfect place to be!

Q: Where did the name Trini’s come from?
Britni: My husband’s nickname growing up was Trini. Our last name is Trinidad, so the name just felt natural.

Q: You recently opened inside of Smar-Tea’s, what has been your favorite part about working with them?
Britni: Their staff is so kind and friendly— they really clicked with our team right away. It’s been a lot of fun getting to know them and their regulars. We’ve even introduced them to our kids, and they welcomed them with open arms. It’s felt like joining a little family together.

Q: What makes your ice cream shop unique from other ones in Kenosha?
Britni: We bring the fun and energy! Our team truly loves what they do, and it shows. When someone orders a Trini Trifle, our team gets genuinely excited to make it. Want to really see them light up? Order a sampler platter! Our staff is always ready to serve with a smile— they’re happy to be here and it creates such a positive experience for everyone who walks in.

Q: Do you have any unique flavors or menu items everyone should try?
Britni: Yes! You’ve got to try our Trini Trifles. We always offer four main trifles plus one or two monthly specials. Wondering what a Trini Trifle is? It’s layers of ice cream stacked with all kinds of delicious toppings— it’s a must-try! Lately, though, I’ve been hooked on our Ice Cream Nachos. You get to choose four flavors of ice cream, then we top it off with your choice of chocolate or caramel sauce (or both!), sprinkles, cherries, and serve it with the most amazing waffle chips. I usually end up taking one home— they’re just that good.

Q: Do you have any upcoming events or deals people should look for this summer?
Britni: Yes! We’re planning a big Grand Opening celebration once the weather warms up a bit. Keep an eye out— we’ll have fun treats, good vibes, and maybe even a few surprises. It’s going to be a great time! Plus, we are hoping to host some other ice cream related events now that we have our ice cream truck.

Q: What is your biggest goal for your first year in business?
Britni:Our biggest goal is to build strong connections within the downtown community and support one another as local businesses. We also look forward to meeting more people in the area who stop in for ice cream— we want to be a fun, welcoming spot where everyone feels like part of the family.
