Why choose Em’s Dance center? A Q&A with a lifelong Kenosha resident and former competitive dancer, Natalie C. and her 5 year old dancing queen of a daughter Jona, a current student at Em’s Dance Center!
Question – Why did you choose dance for Jona, and why Em’s Dance Center?
(N): We chose dance because Jona was always creating her own routines to music, we thought it would be a nice area to explore. We Chose Em’s Dance Center because it is a local studio that focuses on community and uplifting its students. It’s a great place to learn skills and dance culture. The owner, Ms. Emily Morrison, is personable, communicative and the teachers are compassionate and patient. They also offer a free trial which I think is great!
Question – Do you like Em’s Dance Center? And why?
(J): Yes, I really like going to Em’s dance. I like the other kids and my teachers (especially when they dance with me).
Question – What class/classes does Jona take?
(N): Jona has taken Ballet and Tap dancing.
Question – What is your favorite kind of dance?
(J): My favorite is Tap dancing.
Question – What is your favorite song to dance to?
(J): Any song from The Little Mermaid.
Question – What does a typical class look like?
(N): Dance usually starts with a warm-up; the teachers help them but give everyday examples, so the kids aren’t overwhelmed. After the warm-up they typically practice ballet technique, and each child gets a chance to work one-on-one with the teacher. Tap is next with a similar schedule. I think the most important part was the one-on-one time with the teachers. During recital/sessions, the kids slowly learn they’re one or two routines by gradually adding on choreography each week. At the end of class, the kids would need to clean up their foot markers. Jona always gets excited for the stickers they give at the end of class.
Question – What is your overall experience with Em’s, and would you recommend it to other parents?
(N): I highly recommend Em’s for any child (or adult – they have adult classes too) that enjoys dance. It’s a very welcoming, non-judgmental, and encouraging space to learn. They are also adding new classes which I think will make the options even better.
(J): YES! They’re nice and the best dancers!
