Can you describe the types of products and services you offer at Lashes & Brows by Jlostyles?
Jaslyn: I offer individual lash extensions, and permanent makeup tattooing.
Can you give us a little rundown on the history of you starting your business? And why did you choose downtown for your business?
Jaslyn: I was a medical assistant for 3 years and in school for nursing. I honestly loved it but it wasn’t something I looked forward to. I always was a girly girl and my heart was set in the beauty field. I just didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do. But during the COVID shut down, the clinic I was working at shut down and gave me some free time to actually find myself. Being stuck at home I kept coming across lash ads, and classes. I took it as a sign and invested in myself. I didn’t stop there. Once I felt good with lashing I invested into permanent makeup and built up my clientele. With unwavering determination, I seized the opportunity to expand my horizons, and this year, I proudly unveiled my very own storefront in the heart of downtown Kenosha. It’s a dream realized, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have stumbled upon such an ideal location to showcase my craft. This journey has been one of self-discovery, perseverance, and ultimately, finding my rightful place in the beauty industry landscape.
How long have you been working as a lashes and brows stylist?
Jaslyn: I started lashing in 2020, and pmu in 2021.
What inspired your love for lashes?
Jaslyn: In 2020 when I came across a lash class it inspired me because it was something different and new! Yes, I know lash extensions have been a thing for years but truly it really did become more popular after COVID. 
What kind of training and certifications do you have in lash and brow services?
Jaslyn: I took a lash training specializing in classic, hybrid, and volume sets. In permanent makeup I took an ombré powder, micro shading, and combo brows training – separate classes with three different instructors . I also am certified in lip blushing, lip neutralizing, and saline removal (removing old pmu ink). I believe you should keep up with taking new courses and refreshers with different instructors if you want to succeed in your business. Between each of my instructors I gain different knowledge in the services I offer and how i run my business.
Can you describe the different types of lash extensions you offer, and how they differ in terms of style, material, and durability?
Jaslyn: I offer classic pro / wet sets – this style is the most natural set. My clients love this look because it’s not too much, it’s perfect for a day to day wear.
Hybrid / wispy – Hybrid set is perfect for clients who want more of a pop but not so dramatic.
Volume/ mega- is the fullest style on the menu. This is perfect for my clients who love the full glam look.
How do you determine which lash style would best suit a client’s natural lashes and eye shape?
Jaslyn: My approach with every client begins with a thorough consultation, where I dive into their preferences and desires. With this valuable insight, I provide candid feedback tailored to their individual needs. It’s about striking the perfect balance between fulfilling their wishes and safeguarding the health of their lashes. For instance, if a client with naturally short, dry lashes seeks an extravagant, lengthy set, I prioritize integrity over impulse. I firmly adhere to the principle of respecting the natural limits of their lashes, ensuring that I never compromise their health or integrity. Instead, I advocate for a safer approach, recommending extensions that enhance their beauty while maintaining lash health, ensuring that each client leaves with not just stunning lashes, but also with the confidence that their natural beauty has been honored and preserved.
Can you walk me through the process of a typical lash or brow appointment, from consultation to aftercare advice?
Jaslyn: Lash apt – I start with a consent form asking simple question like are you allergic to anything, any eye infections, any allergic reaction from previous lash extensions. Once I finish the lash set I talk about after care where I recommend using lash shampoo that I sell or can be sourced online but must be oil free. This is where I explain to my client the importance of washing their lashes daily and removing any makeup that was applied to maintain a clean and healthy appearance.
When I have a permanent makeup client I send a list of health questions to insure they are in good health and ready to get the process done. Also I remind my clients no caffeine, no pain medications, After care I will give each client ointment that must be applied along with an aftercare check list card to help aid in the recovery.
What products do you use for lash and brow treatments, and why?
Jaslyn: For lash extensions I have my own vendor so i uses lashes supplies by me. And for semi tattooing I stick with brow daddy ink. I was trained with this product and I feel that this ink is the best.
What aftercare advice do you give to clients to maintain their lash or brow extensions?
Jaslyn: I give clients a lash shampoo that is oil free made for extensions and for my after care I supply ointment with an after care check list card as well.
How frequently do clients typically need to come in for touch-ups or maintenance appointments?
Jaslyn: For lashes clients they schedule touch up appointments every 2-3 weeks for fill ins.
For permanent makeup (semi tattooing) clients come back 6-8 weeks after their first initial appointment, then yearly or every 2 -3 years based on ink fade.
What do you enjoy most about working as a lashes and brows stylist?
Jaslyn: I love seeing my client happy and feeling beautiful.
Are there any trends or innovations in lash and brow treatments that you’re particularly excited about or currently offering?
Jaslyn: Right now the trend for lash extensions is more natural and I’m excited because i love natural sets!!

Jaslyn: I love the business community and events that keep downtown so alive.
What makes your business stand out among the many great business in downtown Kenosha?
Jaslyn: I offer different services inside my salon. My clients enjoy making one stop and getting it all done here.
What is something about Downtown Kenosha that you would like for new residents to know?
Jaslyn: The continued investment into upgrading the old, dated storefronts / buildings to the new modern style. Seems to be driving more and more people downtown to hang out and socialize. Which is what gave me the opportunity to expand my business. Starting May 1st I will have a licensed nail tech renting a room inside the salon. Also, a makeup artist just joined the salon so I’m super excited to have more talented girls in here; a one stop shop experience!
What are some of the things you personally like to do in downtown Kenosha?
Jaslyn: My family and I enjoy our Sunday evening ice cream adventure and to take strolls downtown and the pier. We also very much enjoy the art and historical museum.
Can you share any remarkable experiences on being a downtown Kenosha business owner?
Jaslyn: Honestly this has to be the most remarkable experience: finally in my own storefront, sitting here answering questions and setting up a quick video tour of my business. This has made me feel like I’ve achieved an enormous goal in my life and I’d like to add that this should show people that they should never give up on their dreams.
What is next for Lashes & Brows by Jlosyles?
Jaslyn: What’s next is we are looking forward to growing with the community and we are expanding. We have enough room for 2 more talented artist to join in on this adventure.
