Nested in the heart of 6th Avenue, Joy the owner  invites you to explore the treasures, unique finds and timeless pieces that Lulu Birds offers. We chirp it up with Joy Schweitzer Ermert to learn all about Lulu Birds and her love of downtown Kenosha.

Can you give us a little rundown on the history of Lulu Birds?
Joy: Well, Lulu Birds started in 2015 and became a brick and mortar after I was selling stuff out of my garage for years before that.
What kind of products does Lulu Birds offer?
Joy: Lulu Birds is heavy on the vintage offerings, but we offer home goods and home decor and fun and unique gifts.

Q. What makes Lulu birds stand out among the many great businesses here in downtown Kenosha?
Joy: I think that what our customers have come to love about Lulu Birds is the quick overturn and offerings of new items every week and the decorating inside helps give ideas what people can do in their homes.

What is something about downtown Kenosha that you’d like new residents to know about?
Joy: Well, what isn’t there to know? downtown Kenosha is awesome. We’ve got the lakefront, great festivals and fairs, good food, great restaurants, locally owned business, there are loads and loads of stuff to do in downtown Kenosha.

What do you personally like to do in downtown Kenosha?
Joy: I like to go next door to Tavern on 6th and have one of their a fantastic old-fashioned.
Can you walk us through a day in the life as the owner of Lulu Birds?
Joy: Well, that consists of a lot of things, but answering people on Facebook, coming in, restaging every week, taking in new stuff from my vendors, which, by the way, is why we’re closed Mondays and Tuesdays, is because we are in here restocking and getting everything put together, coming in, helping out customers, working with my employees and my awesome vendors.

What is next for Lulu Birds?
Joy: Who knows? I don’t even know. But we are coming up on our ninth anniversary this April. So watch for our celebration of that.
