SUMMARY:GUESS AGAIN: Charlie Donlea in conversation with Joshua Moehling
DESCRIPTION:Psychological thriller readers\, this one is for you! Blue House Books is hosting Charlie Donlea in Kenosha for the launch of his newest novel\, “Guess Again”! Charlie will be at the Rhode Center for the Arts on Tuesday\, July 29th to talk about his latest thriller\, which is perfect for fans of Riley Sager\, Anna Downes\, Alex Finlay\, Ashley Flowers\, Stacy Willingham\, and Karin Slaughter. \nA #1 internationally bestselling author\, Charlie is known for his mold-breaking protagonists\, jaw-dropping endings\, and hot takes on our pop culture obsession with true crime at its most morbid. Now\, “Silence of the Lambs” meets “Cruel Summer” in “Guess Again”\, as Charlie’s engrossing ninth novel dives into the long shadow of trauma on a small town\, hybristophilia and the allure of evil\, and the toll the truth can take on those who hunt for it… \nCharlie will be discussing his book with Joshua Moehling (“And There He Kept Her”)\, answering questions from the audience\, and signing books!\nThis event is ticketed\, check out the details and grab your ticket here: https://www.blue-house-books.com/events/2757920250729 \nAbout GUESS AGAIN: \nOn the 10th anniversary of a teenage girl’s disappearance\, her cold case breaks open in dangerous ways…and threatens to tear apart her small Wisconsin town all over again in the masterfully twisty new psychological suspense novel from the internationally bestselling author of Twenty Years Later.\nTen years ago\, 17-year-old high school volleyball star Callie Jones vanished from her quiet Wisconsin lake community. A highly publicized search followed but her body was never found. The case went cold\, but the echoes still linger. \nEthan Hall\, a former renegade detective turned ER doctor\, left law enforcement to escape the horrors of the kid crime division. But on the tenth anniversary of Callie’s disappearance\, his former partner\, Pete Kramer\, makes a desperate request. Pete is the veteran detective who originally investigated the case. Now he’s dying\, and to ease his conscience and get closure for the Jones family\, he needs Ethan to return to the haunting work he left behind—and solve what happened to Callie\, once and for all. \nWord soon spreads and everyone in the small town of Cherryview feels a rush of hope that answers will finally be found. Amid a sweltering heatwave\, Ethan’s investigation gains momentum\, but reexamining old evidence won’t be enough. He needs a new way into the case\, no matter how dangerous or unconventional. \nSoon Ethan’s methods draw him deeper into a twisted psychological game. Because there is much more to the nightmare of Callie’s disappearance than he imagined\, including a connection with his own dark past . . . and secrets that are still worth killing for. \nAbout CHARLIE DONLEA: \nCharlie Donlea is the critically acclaimed\, “USA Today”\, “Indiebound” and #1 internationally bestselling author of propulsive psychological thrillers including “The Girl Who Was Taken”\, “Some Choose Darkness”\, “Twenty Years Later” and “Those Empty Eyes”. \nPublished in nearly 40 countries and translated into more than a dozen languages\, his books have sold more than 1.5 million copies in the U.S. alone. Donlea has been praised for his “soaring pace\, teasing plot twists” (BookPage) and talent for writing an ending that “makes your jaw drop” (The New York Times Book Review). \nHe was born and raised in Chicago\, where he continues to live with his wife and two children. \nAbout AND THERE HE KEPT HER: \n“A dark and complex mystery that will consume you.” —Julie Clark\, New York Times bestselling author \nThey thought he was a helpless old man. They were wrong. \nWhen two teenagers break into a house on a remote lake in search of prescription drugs\, what starts as a simple burglary turns into a nightmare for all involved. Emmett Burr has secrets he’s been keeping in his basement for more than two decades\, and he’ll do anything to keep his past from being revealed. As he gets the upper hand on his tormentors\, the lines blur between victim\, abuser\, and protector. \nPersonal tragedy has sent former police officer Ben Packard back to the small Minnesota town of Sandy Lake in search of a fresh start. Now a sheriff’s deputy\, Packard is leading the investigation into the missing teens\, motivated by a family connection. As clues dry up and time runs out to save them\, Packard is forced to reveal his own secrets and dig deep to uncover the dark past of the place he now calls home. \nUnrelentingly suspenseful and written with a piercing gaze into the dark depths of the human soul\, And There He Kept Her is a thrilling page-turner that introduces readers to a complicated new hero and forces us to consider the true nature of evil. \nAbout JOSHUA MOEHLING: \nJoshua Moehling is the “USA Today” bestselling author of the Ben Packard series and a two-time Lammy award nominee for Best LGBTQ+ Mystery Thriller. His second novel received high praise from William Kent Krueger\, who said\, “With Where the Dead Sleep\, Joshua Moehling solidifies his place as one of the best new voices in the mystery genre.” \nJoshua lives in Minneapolis with his husband.

SUMMARY:A RESISTANCE OF WITCHES: Morgan Ryan in conversation with Greta Kelly
DESCRIPTION:“A witchy war-time delight!” –Kate Quinn\, New York Times bestselling author of The Briar Club\nWith World War II raging around her\, a young witch abandoned by her coven must race against the clock to find a book of unspeakable power before it lands in the hands of Hitler’s witches. With deeply felt stakes and characters you can’t help rooting for\, “A Resistance of Witches” is a propulsive witchy novel perfect for your summer reading.\nJoin Morgan Ryan\, debut author of “A Resistance of Witches” on Wednesday\, July 16th at 7pm at Blue House Books as she discusses her historical witchy novel with local fantasy author\, Greta Kelly!\n*A $5 deposit is required to reserve your seat\, and that $5 can be used on any in-store transaction the night of the event only.\nPurchase the reservation deposit here: https://www.blue-house-books.com/item/WIdogLxePUmcNq1YaaG-og\n\nAbout A RESISTANCE OF WITCHES:\nAs World War II rages around her\, a witch abandoned by her coven must journey to find a book of unspeakable power before it lands in Nazi hands.\nStubborn\, plain-spoken and from an unimpressive family\, Lydia Polk never expected to be accepted into the Royal Academy of Witches. Now\, with Hitler’s army rampaging across Europe\, the witches of Britain have joined the war effort\, and Lydia is key to the cause: she must use her magic to track down magical relics before Hitler and his sycophants can. When a Nazi witch infiltrates the Academy with heart-breaking consequences\, the coven is left shaken\, exposed and divided. The elder British witches have no interest in further loss of coven life in service of a government that has forced them into hiding for decades\, no matter the consequences to the world. But with the discovery of the Grimorium Bellum\, an ancient book that leaves a trail of death and destruction wherever it goes\, Lydia knows her mission has never been more urgent.\nAlone and woefully outnumbered\, Lydia makes her way to the heart of occupied France\, where she finds allies in Rebecca Gagne—a fierce French resistance fighter chockful of secrets—and Henry Boudreaux—a handsome Haitian American art historian with a little magic of his own. Together\, they traverse the country\, stalked by the natural and supernatural alike\, in search of the grimoire. But\, as Lydia soon discovers\, finding the book is only half the battle—the Grimorium Bellum has a dark agenda all its own. Lydia must subdue it before the Witches of the Third Reich can use it—but she’ll have to survive the book herself\, first.\n\nAbout MORGAN RYAN:\nMorgan Ryan is the author of stories born from a lifelong love of magic\, a fixation on historical minutiae that borders on the obsessive\, and a tendency to fall down rabbit-holes. She was raised in a family of writers in upstate New York and received her degree in theatre performance from Northeastern University. She now lives in Chicago with her husband. “A Resistance of Witches” is her first novel.\n\nAbout GRETA KELLY:\nGreta K. Kelly is (probably) not a witch\, death or otherwise\, but she can still be summoned with offerings of too-beautiful-to-use journals and Butterfingers candy. She currently lives in Wisconsin with her husband EJ\, daughters Lorelei and Nadia who are doing their level-best to take over the world.\nThe Warrior Witch duology\, consisting of “The Frozen Crown” and its sequel “The Seventh Queen” are both out now. Greta’s third novel\, “The Queen of Days”\, a stand-alone adult fantasy is also out now.\n\n\nCost: $5\nevent website: Events 2220420250716 | Blue House Books\nFacebook link: A RESISTANCE OF WITCHES: Morgan Ryan in conversation with Greta Kelly | Facebook

SUMMARY:Meet & Greet with Author Meg Marcus
DESCRIPTION:A spur-of-the-moment trip between old friends brings laughter\, tears\, and the wounds of the past to the surface in “Linger”\, a fantastic women’s fiction novel of friendship and found family by Chicago author Meg Marcus. \nHaving spent so many years apart\, will this time together strengthen the bond they built so many years ago\, or will it reignite the decade-old hurt and send what was left of their friendship up in smoke? \nJoin Meg at Blue House Books on Saturday\, June 28th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to chat about her latest novel and grab a signed copy from the author herself! \nAbout LINGER: \nCaught up in reminiscing\, Mallory sends an invite out of the blue to her old high school friends for a reunion trip. This isn’t just any reunion trip\, but a trip curated especially for Adventure Girl alumni. \nLonging to relive the memories and sisterhood forged in their tenure as Adventure Girls\, the ex-troop all agree to spend a week in California. Mallory\, Katie\, Tina\, Christie\, Mary\, and CeCe venture out to the land of fun and sun to reconstruct the bond they thought had been lost in the years since they had seen each other last. \nSoon\, they begin to realize the wounds of the past run just as deep as their friendship\, and Mallory fears that the trip has torn them too far open to ever repair. \nHaving spent so many years apart\, will this time together strengthen the bond they built so many years ago\, or will it reignite the decade-old hurt and send what was left of their friendship up in smoke? \nAbout MEG MARCUS: \nMeg is based in the Chicago area and recently published her debut novel! Her work reflects her interest in exploring relationships between people and finding meaning in the seemingly mundane. Writing as an art is like creating a mosaic: each piece has to be just the right shape\, size\, and color to come together as a beautiful big picture.

Our second was a mistake. And the night we spent tangled up in each other? Hot as hell but a complete disaster. \nBecause now Sutton Sinclair—the sharp-tongued troublemaker who left claw marks down my back and a dent in my self-control—is living in my backyard cottage with her teenage daughter. And I’m her goddamn landlord. \nI like things quiet. Controlled. She’s neither. Sutton’s chaos wrapped in sunshine\, a temptation in scrubs I can’t seem to stay away from.\nWhen her ex shows up acting like Sutton’s still his to lose\, I claim her on instinct. The kiss? Hot. The fallout? Immediate. \nNow my family—and the entire town—thinks we’re a couple. \nFake dating Sutton wasn’t in my playbook\, but if being a pro-footballer turned high school coach has taught me anything\, it’s how to pivot. All I have to do is keep my hands to myself. \nThen her cottage floods. \nNow we’re sharing a roof…and a bed. The line between real and fake is blurring faster than I can redo the guest house. \nThis is supposed to be temporary. But Sutton doesn’t just crash into my life—she rewrites it. She’s in my home\, moaning my name\, breaking every rule I’ve ever lived by. \nAnd I’m starting to want something permanent with the woman who’s already got one foot out the door. \nAbout BRIGHTON WALSH: \nAward-winning USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brighton Walsh spent a decade as a professional photographer before taking her storytelling in a different direction and reconnecting with her first love—writing. \nShe likes her books how she likes her tea—steamy and satisfying—and adores strong-willed heroines and the protective heroes who fall head over heels for them. \nBrighton lives in the Midwest with her real-life hero of a husband\, her two kids—both taller than her—and her dog who thinks she’s a queen. Her boy-filled house is the setting for dirty socks galore\, frequent dance parties (okay\, so it’s mostly her\, by herself\, while her children look on in horror)\, and more laughter than she thought possible.

SUMMARY:THE DEVIL THREE TIMES: Rickey Fayne in conversation with Cynthia Pelayo
DESCRIPTION:“A debut of enormous ambition” spanning eight generations of a Black family in West Tennessee as they are repeatedly visited by the Devil (Nathan Harris\, New York Times bestselling author of The Sweetness of Water) \nJoin us at Southwest Library on May 22nd to hear from debut novelist Rickey Fayne about his novel\, “The Devil Three Times”! Rickey will be discussing his book with Chicago author Cynthia Pelayo (“Vanishing Daughters”)\, answering questions from the audience\, and signing books! \nThis event is free but you can guarantee your seat by registering at the button below and purchasing a copy of “The Devil Three Times” from Blue House Books. \nAbout “The Devil Three Times”: \nYetunde awakens aboard a slave ship en route to the United States with the spirit of her dead sister as her only companion. Desperate to survive the hell that awaits her at their destination\, Yetunde finds help in an unexpected form—the Devil himself. The Devil\, seeking a way to reenter the pearly gates of heaven\, decides to prove himself to an indifferent God by protecting Yetunde and granting her a piece of his supernatural power. In return\, Yetunde makes an incredible sacrifice. \nTheir bargain extends far beyond Yetunde’s mortal lifespan. Over the next 175 years\, the Devil visits Yetunde’s descendants in their darkest hour of need: Lucille\, a conjure woman; Asa\, who passes for white; Louis and Virgil\, who risk becoming a twentieth-century Cain and Abel; Cassandra\, who speaks to the dead; James\, who struggles to make sense of the past while fighting to keep his family together; and many others. The Devil offers each of them his own version of salvation\, all the while wondering: can he save himself\, too? \nSteeped in the spiritual traditions and oral history of the Black diaspora\, “The Devil Three Times” is a baptism by fire and water\, heralding a new voice in American fiction. \nAbout the Rickey Fayne: \nRickey Fayne is a fiction writer from rural West Tennessee whose work has appeared in American Short Fiction\, Guernica\, The Sewanee Review\, and The Kenyon Review\, among other magazines. He holds an MA in English from Northwestern University and an MFA in Fiction from the Michener Center for Writers at the University of Texas. His writing embodies his Black\, Southern upbringing in order to reimagine and honor his ancestors’ experiences. \nAbout Cynthia Pelayo: \nCynthia Pelayo is a Bram Stoker Award winning and International Latino Book Award winning author and poet. Pelayo writes fairy tales that blend genre and explore concepts of grief\, mourning\, and cycles of violence. \nShe is the author of “Loteria”\, “Poems of My Night”\, “Into the Forest and All the Way Through”\, “Children of Chicago”\, “Crime Scene”\, “The Shoemaker’s Magician”\, “Forgotten Sisters”\, as well as dozens of standalone short stories and poems.

Register here: https://www.blue-house-books.com/events/2297220250503 \nAbout “PLEASE EXCUSE MY BOUNDARIES” \nKristy Jean was born knowing exactly who she was—bold\, stubborn (“capatosta\,” as her Italian family would say)\, and unafraid to speak her mind. But then she met the world. The world told her to be quiet\, sit nicely\, and fit in at all costs. So\, like so many of us\, she learned to please\, to excuse\, to shrink. Little by little\, she lost herself. \n“Please Excuse My Boundaries” is a raw\, unapologetic exploration of what happens when we trade authenticity for acceptance—and what it takes to reclaim ourselves. Through personal stories and hard-earned lessons\, Kristy Jean unpacks the ways she excused her fears\, ignored her needs\, and let others dictate her worth. But this isn’t just her story—it’s an invitation to examine your own. \nAbout KRISTY JEAN \nKristy Jean is a blended mom of four\, wife\, educational leader\, speaker\, and author whose mission is to help all of us redefine and live our most authentic lives. She holds a Master of Science in Educational Administration as well as Principal and Director of Instruction licensures. She values blending the expertise of education\, business\, and wellness professionals for a more holistic perspective in her personal and professional lives. \nHer first book\, “Decision Permission: Five States of Support For Every Level of Decision Making”\, is a culmination of these experiences\, as she proposes a new approach to the decision-making process. Born out of her personal experiences & research in various fields\, the five “States”: Ponder\, Prepare\, Produce\, Persevere\, and Process provide a framework to support readers as they make (and respond to) decisions throughout their lives. These States also anchor her speaking & coaching work with individuals\, groups\, and businesses\, as they collaborate with Kristy Jean to define an authentic identity and produce decisions that align with their goals. \nShe is a frequent guest expert on NBC’s “The Morning Blend”\, bringing viewers inspiring content around facing & embracing change\, blended families\, and setting boundaries in our lives. \nKristy Jean’s work centers around her passion to meet you where you are at this moment and to personalize the journey toward your goals so that you (and your team) confidently make your own decisions\, embrace change\, and set clear boundaries to achieve your own definition of success. \nShe lives in Wisconsin with her blended family of six who love to play board games & enjoy quality time in the Northwoods.

SUMMARY:THE WORLD'S FAIR QUILT: Reading & Book Signing with Jennifer Chiaverini
DESCRIPTION:Jennifer Chiaverini returns to the well-loved circle of Elm Creek Quilters to illuminate a nearly forgotten jubilant moment in women’s history during the trying years of the Great Depression. In chapters alternating between 2004 and 1933\, The World’s Fair Quilt: An Elm Creek Quilts Novel stitches together a story of sisterhood and sibling rivalry\, guilt and resentment\, forgiveness and peace. \nJoin Jennifer Chiaverini in Kenosha at Northside Library at 5 p.m. on Friday\, April 4th 2025. We will be starting the event with a show and tell from local quilters\, then hearing from Jennifer about her latest book in the Elm Creek Quilts series! Jennifer will also be taking questions from the audience and signing book. \nThis event is free but registration is required. \nShow off your quilt during the show & tell: \nTwenty participants are welcome to bring in a quilt to share with Jennifer and her readers! It can be one you made\, a gift you received or a family heirloom. Be prepared to give a 2 to 3 minute description of the quilt and why it’s your favorite. Everyone who participates will be entered into a giveaway! \nYou must sign up to participate and there are only 20 spots available. Sign up by purchasing this “ticket\,” and choose “store pickup” at checkout. Don’t forget to still also sign RSVP for the event! \nAbout The World’s Fair Quilt: \nIn her eighth decade\, Sylvia Bergstrom Compson is content to be back at Elm Creek Manor—the home she fled\, in grief and despair\, after her first husband and younger brother were killed in World War II\, followed by an irreparable falling-out with her elder sister\, Claudia. Her fifty years’ absence has made each day at her ancestral estate in rural Pennsylvania all the more precious\, especially since she is surrounded by her new family—her husband\, Andrew\, and kindred quilters. Thanks to dedicated\, gifted faculty and the business acumen of Sarah McClure\, the Elm Creek Quilt Camp has blossomed into a perennially popular quilter’s retreat. Sylvia often marvels at how\, in her golden years\, she has forged cherished friendships\, founded a thriving business\, rediscovered the artist within herself\, fallen in love with a long-lost childhood friend—and still feels as if the best is yet to come. All would be well—if not for new\, unexpected financial worries. Restoring the woefully neglected estate she inherited after her spendthrift sister’s death was no easy feat\, and now the roof needs replacing. Perhaps the launch of Elm Creek Orchards\, a venture spearheaded by Sarah’s husband\, will spare Sylvia from having to raise the price of sessions for campers—or worse\, seeking a loan or a benefactor. A child of the Great Depression\, Sylvia abhors the thought of both debt and bankruptcy. \nAs she ponders her options\, Sylvia receives a startling request from her young friend and colleague Summer Sullivan\, curator of the Waterford Historical Society’s quilt gallery. Summer would like to exhibit a quilt Sylvia and Claudia made together when they were in her early teens—a rare artifact indeed\, since the sisters’ prickly and competitive relationship made them very poor quilting partners. Yet in 1933\, they put aside their differences to collaborate on a quilt for the Sears National Quilt Contest for the upcoming Century of Progress Exposition. The sisters were driven by dreams of winning the $1\,200 grand prize—then an enormous\, life- changing sum of money—and having their quilt in the spotlight at the at the Chicago World’s Fair. Submitted under the name “Claudia Sylvia Bergstrom\,” their World’s Fair Quilt won first place at the local level—accompanied by a check for ten dollars from the Harrisburg Sears—and went on to receive a Ribbon of Merit at the regional level in Philadelphia. \nAs a Master Quilter\, Sylvia has reason to be proud of her early masterpiece. It won two prizes in the largest quilt contest ever held\, then and ever after. Twenty-five thousand quilts were submitted\, which\, given the population at the time\, meant that roughly one of every two thousand American women participated. The quilts revealed how the concept of progress was imagined and defined by a people still recovering from World War I and struggling through the Great Depression. For the quilt she made with her sister\, Sylvia seized on the idea of illustrating progress of values\, depicting scenes of the Emancipation Proclamation\, women’s suffrage\, and labor unions. Then\, there was First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt’s role in the contest\, a controversy behind the grand prize winner\, and the mystery of how the winning quilt vanished. Sylvia agrees that the World’s Fair Quilt is a work of historical significance. Still\, she grants Summer’s request with misgivings\, and not only because the fragile\, long-neglected quilt is sorely in need of cleaning and repair. \nAs The World’s Fair Quilt unfolds\, readers will discover a troubling secret that Sylvia has been keeping since 1933. Did she hide a critical document to protect her sister\, or was her motivation not purely selfless? If she had told Claudia the truth when they were teens\, might they have had a better relationship as adults? And so many decades later\, has Sylvia continued to judge Claudia too harshly? Can the lessons of the past help secure Elm Creek Manor’s future? Affirming the power of women’s friendship and the importance of quilting\, THE WORLD’S FAIR QUILT is a heartwarming addition to a series described as “like a strong cup of tea—cozy yet hard-hitting” (Booklist). At one point in the novel\, Sylvia reflects\, “If she had learned nothing else in her eighty-plus years\, it was that she should choose hope.” That’s a timely message for us all. \nAbout Jennifer Chiaverini: \nJennifer Chiaverini is the New York Times bestselling author of more than thirty novels\, including critically acclaimed historical fiction and the beloved Elm Creeks Quilt series\, which she began in 1999 to capture everything she loves about quilting—the artistry\, tradition\, folklore\, and\, above all\, wonderful community. Her works of nonfiction include seven collections of quilt patterns and original designs featured in Country Woman\, Quiltmaker\, Quilt\, and other magazines. In 2020\, Jennifer received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Wisconsin Library Association for her novel Resistance Women. In 2023\, the WLA awarded her the honor of Notable Wisconsin Author for her significant contributions to the state’s literary heritage.

Only spoken of in whispers as “the sandman\,” he lurks in the Hidden Atlantis Lake Resort and Casino\, the reservation’s main attraction and source of revenue\, leeching its patrons’ dreams and ambitions and also preventing the ghosts that linger there from moving on. Fleeing a breakup\, Marion Lafournier\, a mid-twenties Ojibwe\, seeks solace in the slot machine’s siren song. Here he falls afoul of the sandman\, an encounter Marion barely escapes through the timely intervention of his cousins Alana and Cherie\, who both work at the casino and are intimately aware of the sandman’s power. Meanwhile\, Glenn Nielan\, only recently out of the closet and an aspiring documentarian\, hopes to capture the faces of the Ojibwe land while experiencing the casino’s thrills. But he will learn that all who choose to play the sandman’s games are in danger of falling into his grasp.\nMarion and Alana are members of the Bullhead clan\, a family with ties to a sacred past and a fierce determination to ensure their future. Alana\, with her seven-fire sight\, is the only person to fully grasp the danger the sandman poses. Aware of Marion’s occasional ability to navigate the spirit world\, she enlists his aid in defeating this wraith. But the power and reach of the sandman go far beyond Alana’s worst fears. Soon she and Marion find themselves in a battle for their lives and for the souls of the reservation’s residents\, both the living and the dead. \nABOUT DENNIS STAPLES:\nDennis E. SUMMARY:FINLAY DONOVAN DIGS HER OWN GRAVE: Elle Cosimano in conversation with Hannah Morrissey
DESCRIPTION:From New York Times bestseller and Edgar-Award nominee Elle Cosimano\, comes “Finlay Donovan Digs Her Own Grave”—the hugely anticipated next installment in the fan-favorite Finlay Donovan series. \nFinlay Donovan and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero have not always gotten along with Finlay’s elderly neighbor\, Mrs. Haggerty\, the community busybody and president of the neighborhood watch. But when a simple call to a plumber turns into the discovery of a dead body in her backyard\, Mrs. Haggerty needs their help. \nJoin Elle Cosimano at The Rhode Center for the Arts on Saturday\, March 8th at 6 p.m.! Elle will be discussing her latest book with Wisconsin author Hannah Morrissey (“Hello\, Transcriber”)\, answering questions from the audience\, and signing books!\nThis is a ticketed event\, so make sure to grab your ticket before they run out! https://blue-house-books.com/events/1647920250308 \nABOUT ELLE COSIMANO \nElle Cosimano is a “New York Times” and “USA Today” bestselling author\, an International Thriller Award winner\, a Bram Stoker Award finalist\, and an Edgar® Award nominee. Her acclaimed young adult novels include “Nearly Gone”\, “Holding Smoke”\, “The Suffering Tree”\, and “Seasons of the Storm”. \nElle’s debut novel for adults\, “Finlay Donovan Is Killing It”\, kicked off a witty\, fast-paced contemporary mystery series\, which was a PEOPLE Magazine Pick and was named one of New York Public Library’s Best Books of 2021. In addition to writing novels for teens and adults\, her essays have appeared in The Huffington Post and Time. Elle lives with her husband and two sons in Virginia. \nABOUT “FINLAY DONOVAN DIGS HER OWN GRAVE” \nFinlay Donovan and her nanny/partner-in-crime Vero have not always gotten along with Finlay’s elderly neighbor\, Mrs. Haggerty\, the community busybody and president of the neighborhood watch. But when a simple call to a plumber turns into the discovery of a dead body in her backyard\, Mrs. Haggerty needs their help. \nThe police take Mrs. Haggerty in for questioning and\, though she swears she’s innocent\, it’s clear to everyone she’s keeping a secret . . . but whose? With her house now an active crime scene\, she’s released from custody with nowhere to go. Her concerned grandson\, Brendan\, an aspiring politician\, doesn’t have room in his one-bedroom apartment for her and appeals to Finlay to let her stay at her place until the investigation is over. \nFinlay and Vero have no interest in getting involved in another murder case—or sacrificing either of their bedrooms so they’d have to share. After all\, they’ve dealt with enough murders over the last four months to last a lifetime and they both would much rather share their beds with someone else. But when the focus of the investigation widens to include Mrs. Haggerty’s neighbors\, Finn and Vero are left with little choice but to uncover the woman’s secrets before the police start digging up theirs. \nDesperate to clear his grandmother’s name before his upcoming campaign for local office\, Brendan Haggerty makes Finlay and Vero an offer that seems too tempting to refuse give their grandmother a place to stay under their watchful eyes and he’ll help Finlay and Vero find a killer. But who will solve the mystery first? And will the name Brendan turn over to the police exonerate or implicate them? \nABOUT HANNAH MORRISSEY \nHannah Morrissey is the author of the Black Harbor suspense series which includes “Hello\, Transcriber”\, “The Widowmaker”\, and “When I’m Dead”. A three-decade survivor of Wisconsin winters\, Hannah enjoys putting her characters (and readers) in bone-chilling atmospheres that permeate beyond the page. Naturally\, her books have carved out their own sub-genre\nof “Midwestern Noir.” \nBetween roles of bookseller and copywriter\, Hannah was inspired to write her debut novel while transcribing reports for her local police department. Far from home in a grim\, crime-ridden city\, it was her job to sit alone in the dead of night\, listen\, and type as detectives divulged the city’s darkest secrets. There\, she realized that every case was a story\, and every story started with the same two words: “Hello\, Transcriber.” \nHannah graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison where she majored in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing. She grew up in a small northern town and now lives near Milwaukee with her husband\, three pugs\, and a TBR pile that never seems to get any smaller. \nABOUT “HELLO\, TRANSCRIBER” \nEvery night\, while the streetlamps shed the only light on Wisconsin’s most crime-ridden city\, police transcriber Hazel Greenlee listens as detectives divulge Black Harbor’s gruesome secrets. An aspiring novelist\, Hazel believes that writing a book could be her only ticket out of this frozen hellscape\, but her life isn’t exactly brimming with inspiration. Until her neighbor confesses to hiding the corpse of an overdose victim. \nWith an insider’s look at the investigation\, Hazel becomes spellbound by the lead detective\, Nikolai Kole\, and the chilling narrative he shares with her. Through his transcription\, she learns that the suspicious death is linked to Candy Man—a drug dealer notorious for selling illegal substances to children—and when Kole invites her on a covert operation to help take the dealer down\, the promise of a story calls to her. As the investigation unfolds\, Hazel will discover just how far she will go for her story\, even if it means destroying her marriage\, her career\, and any chance she has of getting out of Black Harbor alive. Because if she’s learned one relentless truth about this place\, it’s the fact that everybody lies.

Now Rusty must return to the courtroom one last time\, where he’s forced to question if the system to which he has devoted his life can ever provide true justice for those who are presumed guilty. \nScott Turow and David Ellis (“Look Closer” and “The Best Lies”) will be at Blue House Books on Friday\, February 21st to talk about the latest book in Scott’s “Presumed Innocent” series! \nTurow\, a former prosecutor\, and Ellis\, a sitting appellate court judge\, will be talking about the thrilling side of crime and punishment\, and how Turow has used his experience in the courtroom to write several bestselling novels! \nThere will also be time for questions from the audience and a book signing! \nThis event is free\, but registration is required at the RSVP button below. \nABOUT PRESUMED GUILTY \nRusty is a retired judge attempting a third act in life with a loving soon-to-be wife\, Bea\, with whom he shares both a restful home on an idyllic lake in the rural Midwest and a plaintive hope that this marriage will be his best\, and his last. \nBut the peace that’s taken Rusty so long to find evaporates when Bea’s young adult son\, Aaron\, living under their supervision while on probation for drug possession\, disappears. If Aaron doesn’t return soon\, he will be sent back to jail. \nAaron eventually turns up with a vague story about a camping trip with his troubled girlfriend\, Mae\, that ended in a fight and a long hitchhike home. Days later\, when she still hasn’t returned\, suspicion falls on Aaron\, and when Mae is subsequently discovered dead\, Aaron is arrested and set for trial on charges of first-degree murder. \nFaced with few choices and even fewer hopes\, Bea begs Rusty to return to court one last time\, to defend her son and to save their last best hope for happiness. \nABOUT SCOTT TUROW \nScott Turow\, a writer and former practicing lawyer\, is the author of thirteen bestselling works of fiction\, including “Presumed Innocent”\, “Suspect”\, and the upcoming “Presumed Guilty”. \nMr. Turow has also published two nonfiction books\, including “One L”\, about his experience as a law student. His books have been translated into more than forty languages\, sold more than thirty million copies worldwide\, and have been adapted into movies and television projects. \nHe has frequently contributed essays and op-ed pieces to publications such as the New York Times\, Washington Post\, Vanity Fair\, the New Yorker\, and the Atlantic. \nABOUT THE BEST LIES \nLeo Balanoff is a diagnosed pathological liar with unthinkable skeletons in his family’s closet. He’s also a crusading attorney who seeks justice at all costs. When a ruthless drug dealer is found dead and Leo’s fingerprints show up on the murder weapon\, no one believes a word he says. But he might be the FBI’s only shot at taking down the dealer’s brutal syndicate. \nRisk his life going undercover for the feds or head straight to prison for murder? Leo accepts the FBI’s offer—but it comes with a price\, including a collision course with his ex\, Andi Piotrowski\, a former cop and “the one who got away.” \nForced to walk a tightrope between an ambitious FBI agent and a cruel\, calculating crime boss\, Leo’s trapped in a corner. But he has more secrets than anyone realizes\, and a few more cards left to play … \nABOUT DAVID ELLIS \nDavid Ellis is a judge and an Edgar-award-winning author of ten novels of crime fiction\, as well as eight bestselling books co-authored with James Patterson. His novels have been translated into more than ten languages worldwide. \nIn December 2014\, Dave was sworn in as the youngest-serving Justice of the Illinois Appellate Court for the First District. SUMMARY:LET'S CALL HER BARBIE: Renee Rosen in conversation with Melanie Benjamin
DESCRIPTION:She was only eleven-and-a-half inches tall\, but she would change the world. Barbie is born in this bold new novel by “USA Today” bestselling author Renée Rosen. \nJoin Renee Rosen at Blue House Books on Wednesday\, February 12th at 7 p.m. to celebrate her newest historical fiction novel\, “Let’s Call Her Barbie”! Renee will be discussing her book with fellow Midwest author Melanie Benjamin (“The Children’s Blizzard”)\, where she will go into detail about her research into American’s feminist icon\, answer questions from the audience\, and sign books! \nThis event is free\, but registration is required. Get all the details and RSVP here: https://www.blue-house-books.com/events/1603520250212 \nAbout “LET’S CALL HER BARBIE”: \nWhen Ruth Handler walks into the boardroom of the toy company she co-founded and pitches her idea for a doll unlike any other\, she knows what she’s setting in motion. It might just take the world a moment to catch up. \nIn 1956\, the only dolls on the market for little girls let them pretend to be mothers. Ruth’s vision for a doll shaped like a grown woman and outfitted in an enviable wardrobe will let them dream they can be anything. \nAs Ruth assembles her team of creative rebels—head engineer Jack Ryan who hides his deepest secrets behind his genius and designers Charlotte Johnson and Stevie Klein\, whose hopes and dreams rest on the success of Barbie’s fashion—she knows they’re working against a ticking clock to get this wild idea off the ground. \nIn the decades to come—through soaring heights and devastating personal lows\, public scandals and private tensions— each of them will have to decide how tightly to hold on to their creation. Because Barbie has never been just a doll—she’s a legacy. \nAbout RENEE ROSEN: \nRenee Rosen is a “USA Today” bestselling author. Her novels include “Let’s Call Her Barbie”\, “Fifth Avenue Glamour Girl”\, “The Social Graces” and “Park Avenue Summer” as well as others. Her books have been translated into over a dozen languages. She lives in Chicago and is currently working on a new novel. To learn more\, visit her website at www.reneerosen.com \nAbout “THE CHILDREN’S BLIZZARD”: \nThe morning of January 12\, 1888\, was unusually mild\, following a punishing cold spell. It was warm enough for the homesteaders of the Dakota Territory to venture out again\, and for their children to return to school without their heavy coats—leaving them unprepared when disaster struck. At the hour when most prairie schools were letting out for the day\, a terrifying\, fast-moving blizzard blew in without warning. Schoolteachers as young as sixteen were suddenly faced with life and death decisions: Keep the children inside\, to risk freezing to death when fuel ran out\, or send them home\, praying they wouldn’t get lost in the storm? \nBased on actual oral histories of survivors\, this gripping novel follows the stories of Raina and Gerda Olsen\, two sisters\, both schoolteachers—one becomes a hero of the storm and the other finds herself ostracized in the aftermath. It’s also the story of Anette Pedersen\, a servant girl whose miraculous survival serves as a turning point in her life and touches the heart of Gavin Woodson\, a newspaperman seeking redemption. It was Woodson and others like him who wrote the embellished news stories that lured northern European immigrants across the sea to settle a pitiless land. Boosters needed them to settle territories into states\, and they didn’t care what lies they told these families to get them there—or whose land it originally was. \nAt its heart\, this is a story of courage\, of children forced to grow up too soon\, tied to the land because of their parents’ choices. It is a story of love taking root in the hard prairie ground\, and of families being torn asunder by a ferocious storm that is little remembered today—because so many of its victims were immigrants to this country. \nAbout MELANIE BENJAMIN: \nMelanie Benjamin is the author of the “New York Times” and “USA Today” bestselling historical novels “The Swans of Fifth Avenue”\, about Truman Capote and his society swans\, “The Aviator’s Wife”\, a novel about Anne Morrow Lindbergh\, and “The Children’s Blizzard”\, a gripping tale of survival and forgiveness amidst a devastating\, real-life blizzard that hit the Great Plains on the afternoon of January 12\, 1888. Other historical novels include “The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb”\, “The Girls in the Picture”\, “Mistress of the Ritz” and “California Golden”. She lives in Chicago.

SUMMARY:BEAST OF THE NORTH WOODS: Annelise Ryan in Kenosha
DESCRIPTION:Morgan Carter is back in the latest Monster Hunter Mystery series\, “Beast of the North Woods”! When a local fisherman is mauled to death\, it seems like the only possible cause is a mythical creature in the latest puzzling entry in this USA Today bestselling series. \nJoin Annelise Ryan at Blue House Books on Thursday\, January 30th at 7 p.m. as part of her book tour for “Beast of the North Woods”! Annelise will be discussing her latest book with fellow Wisconsin author Amy Pease (“Northwoods”)\, answering questions from the audience\, and signing books! \nThis is a ticketed event\, so make sure to grab your ticket before they run out! \nABOUT ANNELISE RYAN: \nAnnelise Ryan is a pseudonym for the Wisconsin-based author of the Monster Hunter Mystery series\, the first of which\, “A Death in Door County”\, was released in September 2022. The second book in the series\, “Death in the Dark Woods”\, came out in December of 2023 and book #3\, “Beast of the North Woods” is set for release on January 28\, 2025. \nAnnelise also penned the rib-tickling 12- book Mattie Winston Mystery series featuring the adventures of a wryly cynical nurse-turned-coroner in a small Wisconsin town and the spin-off Helping Hands Mysteries. \nAs Allyson K. Abbott\, she authored a 6-book series known as the Mack’s Bar Mysteries (a bit of cheeky fun there with the initials on that nom de plume!) \nAnd as Beth Amos\, she has written more than 200 published articles\, worked as a book reviewer for Barnes & Noble\, and written five thrillers\, three of which were published by HarperCollins in the late ’90s. She is an active member of Mystery Writers of America\, Sisters in Crime\, and International Thriller Writers. \nShe is a registered nurse whose past work experience has included everything from birth (obstetrics) to death (hospice). She recently retired after spending her last 20 years working in the ER. \nABOUT BEAST OF THE NORTH WOODS: \nAn ice fisherman is savagely mauled to death in Rhinelander\, Wisconsin\, and an eyewitness claims the man was attacked by a hodag. There’s just one problem with that: it’s well known that the creature is not real and was created by a local hoaxer. So how could an imaginary creature be chomping on local sportsmen? \nThe suggestion that a hodag killed someone isn’t well received by the townsfolk because of its beloved ties to the town and the money it generates from tourist dollars. Due to this\, people begin to suspect the witness is the real killer\, especially when it’s discovered he has a tangled past with the victim. \nThe witness to the attack happens to be the nephew of Morgan Carter’s bookstore employee\, Rita Bosworth\, who convinces the professional cryptozoologist to travel to Wisconsin to prove that a hodag not only exists but killed the victim. \nClues may be hard to come by\, but one thing’s for sure: something killed that man\, and that something now has its eyes focused on Morgan. \nABOUT AMY PEASE: \nAmy Pease is an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin and the Madison Writer’s Studio\, and works as a nurse practitioner\, where she is a nationally recognized HIV specialist. She lives in Wisconsin with her husband and two children. “Northwoods” is her first novel. \n“Northwoods” is a tale of the dark underbelly of an idyllic Midwestern resort town is revealed in the aftermath of a murder with ties to America’s opioid epidemic in this unputdownable and thrilling debut that is perfect for fans of James Lee Burke\, William Kent Krueger\, and Mindy Mejia.

ABOUT THE BOOK Popular fitness influencer Gemma has transformed herself from a Before into an After\, complete with washboard abs\, thriving business\, and a gorgeous husband. But social media can be deceiving. Offline\, the cutthroat world of bikini bodybuilding may just eat her alive. That’s if she’s not first devoured by the secret nemesis that lurks beneath her polished surface\, waiting to destroy her. Software engineer Ashley is fat and frustrated. Frustrated with failed diets. With a world that wants her to shrink. With biased doctors\, online trolls\, and even her own mother. Until Ashley falls in with a mysterious and radical sect of Fat Activists who are fighting back … by any means necessary. She’s never felt so alive\, so full of purpose. She’ll do whatever it takes to ride this high\, destroy Diet Culture\, and win the approval of her charismatic leader. Gemma and Ashley are on a collision course headed for the Olympia\, the bodybuilding competition where futures are made. And lost. When Gemma’s toughest rival turns up dead\, and more fitness girls fall like dominoes\, it’s beginning to look like the body image war has gone too far. With breakneck pace and keen insights\, “Bodies to Die For” takes a hard look at social media\, the $70 billion diet industry\, and the war on women’s bodies—the wars we wage with each other\, and with ourselves.
