SUMMARY:Old Northside Historic Walking Tour
DESCRIPTION:NEW in 2023! On the fourth Sunday of the month\, May through October\, the Kenosha County Historical Society (who operates the Kenosha History Center and the seasonal Southport Light Station Museum) presents the Old Northside Historic Walking Tour. \nThe tour starts at 1 PM at Veterans Memorial Park (shown). The tour is expected to last 90 minutes and will make its way through the old north side of Kenosha: “over the Rhine.” Historically\, the neighborhood was a mix of workers and business owners\, primarily immigrants from Central and Eastern Europe\, and shows a slice of life in the self-contained urban neighborhood of the past. The tours are led by volunteer historians\, who grew up in the neighborhood. \nReservations are required and are $10 per person. Reservations can be made in person at the Kenosha History Center\, via email at kchs@kenoshahistorycenter.org\, or via phone at 262-654-5770. No physical tickets are given out; the tour guides will be given a list of registered names the morning of the tour.

Even though the Civil War was not a war of religion\, we cannot understand America’s most profound event if we overlook the fact that the conflict was a very religious one. \nReligion and faith were perhaps the greatest social motivators that helped bring about the Civil War\, promoted and encouraged both the abolition and secession movements\, and supported troops in battle and camp.

Additional special events will take place many Saturdays including the Bookmobile\, The Puppet Underground and a few special surprises. \nAdmission and parking are always free. \nMarket Moola is an incentive program that provides matching funds of up to $20 per week to SNAP/EBT users who shop at Kenosha HarborMarket®. Individuals and families who are part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program can enjoy matching funds as part of this HarborMarket program. Tokens can be purchased in $2 increments at the Friends of the Market booth using their EBT cards. These tokens can be used like cash at approved vendor stands that supply foods for the household to consume at home such as breads\, cereal\, fruits and vegetables\, meats\, fish and poultry\, cheeses\, garden seeds that produce food\, and more.

DESCRIPTION:Presented By:\nKenosha History Center\nWhen:\nMay 6\, 2023 – October 7\, 2023\nPrice:\nReservations for the Walking Tour must be made in advance and the cost is $10 per person.\nTime:\nFrom: 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM\nRecurrence:\nRecurring monthly on the 1st Saturday \nOn the first Saturday of the month\, May through October\, the Kenosha County Historical Society (who operates the Kenosha History Center and the seasonal Southport Light Station Museum) presents this guided walking tour of the historic Third Avenue District. \nThe tour typically lasts 90 minutes with a leisurely walk discussing the architectural and historical significance of the buildings. The tours are led by volunteer historians. \nReservations for the Walking Tour must be made in advance and the cost is $10 per person. Contact the Kenosha History Center to make your reservation: 262-654-5770. \nThe Third Avenue Historic District is one of four historic districts designated in the City of Kenosha. The district features Kenosha’s early 20th century mansions along the Lake Michigan shore. This area was the residential choice for many of Kenosha’s most important industrialists.
