SUMMARY:Kenosha Yacht Club Blessing of the Fleet
DESCRIPTION:The Kenosha Yacht Club takes pride in announcing its 65th annual Blessing of the Fleet. The event will begin at 10:30am\, on Sunday\, June 4th at the Kenosha Yacht Club\, 5130 4th Avenue on historic Simmons Island. \nAt the Kenosha Yacht Club\, as with many boating organizations and communities worldwide\, the Blessing of the Fleet symbolizes the start of the boating season. This centuries-old tradition has been passed down from generation to generation\, asking that ships and their crews be safeguarded from the dangers of the seas\, for a fisherperson’s bountiful catch\, and for a safe return to harbor. \nThe ceremony offers the opportunity to honor our past as well as memorialize those who have gone before us. As such\, the ceremony will include a remembrance of past members who have passed away this year by the reading of their names and the tolling of the bell. They will also be remembered with the lighting of the Southport Lighthouse that day. A traditional wreath will be placed at the flagpole\, and we will be joined by the Viet Nam Vets Honor Guard. There will be messages from the KYC Commodore\, as well as from the Civic and community leaders who will be joining us for the occasion. \nBoats brought to the Kenosha Yacht Club will be blessed\, and boaters are encouraged to display their “brag flags.” We will also go to Southport Marina and the inner harbor to bless boats docked in those locations. As always\, the general public is more than welcome. Since 1912\, the Kenosha Yacht Club has been home to boaters and families around the southwestern shore of Lake Michigan.

DESCRIPTION:A new book\, More Than Just Grit: Civil War Leadership\, Logistics and Teamwork in the West\, 1862\, has entered the collection of Civil War titles describing the war in its second and crucial year. More evenly matched on battlefields with the South than at any time later in the war\, the North was able to win a series of victories\, and occasionally did so with commanding generals who remain largely unknown today. Why was the North so successful in the West? Dick Zimmermann will present an original summary of his book showing the pattern of observable elements that appeared to lead to victory in these engagements. \nMr. Zimmermann was a school administrator and taught history and economics. At the Civil War Museum in Kenosha\, Wisconsin\, he assists in the archives\, presents programs on military history\, and does research for new exhibits. He has written one other book on the Civil War\, articles on military history\, and is a member of the Milwaukee Civil War Round Table.

No carry-ins of alcohol. \nPILLOW DRIVE \nSpectrum Wealth\, Tax and Accounting is proud to announce that we will be hosting a Pillow Drive during Twilight Jazz 2023. We fully understand and appreciate the welcoming comfort of a new pillow and the peace of mind it brings. Join us in making twilight a little easier for our local families at Woman & Children’s Horizons. \nDonations of NEW pillows will be collected during each of the jazz concerts this year. \nThe Twilight Jazz Summer Concert Series has established itself as one of Kenosha’s signature events\, drawing crowds from throughout southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Funds raised during the concert series support and sustain the Anderson Arts Center and the Kemper Center and help to promote the arts and art education in the community.
