SUMMARY:Margaret Peterson Haddix in Kenosha!
DESCRIPTION:Margaret Peterson Haddix is coming to Kenosha! \nJoin us on September 11th at Southwest Library\, 7979 38th Ave\, for a conversation with Margaret Peterson Haddix and Lorelei Savaryn to celebrate the release of Book 3 in the Trash & Treasure series\, “The Stolen Key”! The event is free but registration is required\, please RSVP for everyone in your party\, including all children\, https://blue-house-books.com/events/470620240911. \nThe two authors will be discussing why they love writing books for children and how they come up with all their adventure stories! The authors will also be taking questions from the audience and will be available to sign books! You can order books from us now to pick up in advance or purchase books by both authors at the event. \nABOUT MARGARET PETERSON HADDIX \nMargaret Peterson Haddix grew up on a farm in Ohio. As a kid\, she knew two girls who had the exact same first\, middle\, and last names and shared the same birthday—only one year apart—and she always thought that was bizarre. \nAs an adult\, Haddix worked as a newspaper reporter and copy editor in Indiana before her first book\, “Running Out of Time”\, was published. She has since written more than forty books for kids and teens\, including the Greystone Secrets series\, the Shadow Children series\, the Missing series\, the Children of Exile series\, and lots of stand-alones. Haddix and her husband\, Doug\, now live in Columbus\, Ohio\, where they raised their two kids. You can learn more about her at haddixbooks.com. \nABOUT MYSTERIES OF TRASH AND TREASURE: “THE STOLEN KEY” \nNew York Times bestselling author Margaret Peterson Haddix delivers the thrilling conclusion to her middle grade Mysteries of Trash and Treasure series as Colin and Nevaeh unravel their most personal mystery yet. \nColin has spent all summer solving mysteries with his friend Nevaeh. But they’ve only ever dealt with other people’s mysteries—ones that are safe for Colin to think about. He’s still stuck on the mystery surrounding his own father\, who his mother refuses to talk about and he can’t remember meeting. \nThen one morning Colin finds a shoebox on his porch with a note on top: “Your father wanted you to have this.” Inside the box is a key. This new clue makes Colin even more determined to find out the truth about his dad and why his parents split up when he was a baby. Colin and Nevaeh begin investigating Colin’s father in a quest that takes them from eerie storage units to lock-lined bridges to\, strangely\, secrets in Nevaeh’s family. \nBut the closer they get to connecting the clues\, the more trouble awaits them. A serious accident leaves Nevaeh’s family reeling—and Nevaeh racked with guilt. And digging into Colin’s father’s past may lead Colin and his mom into even more danger. Can Colin and Nevaeh solve the mystery before it’s too late? \nABOUT LORELEI SAVARYN \nLorelei Savaryn is an author of magical stories for children\, including “The Night Train” releasing August 20th\, 2024. She holds a BA in creative writing and works in schools as an instructional coach. When she isn’t writing\, she spends her time amid the beautiful chaos of life with her husband and four children outside of Chicago. She is also the author of “The Edge of In Between” and “The Circus of Stolen Dreams”. You can find her online at LoreleiSavaryn.com and on Instagram @LoreleiSavaryn. \nABOUT THE NIGHT TRAIN \nMaddie Maverick likes to win. Whether it’s track team races or one-liners she delivers on her parents’ home renovation show\, Maddie knows that if she puts in the work\, she’ll always come out on top. But things take a turn when her ghost-hunting nana passes away\, and Maddie and her twin sister\, Nat\, discover that Nana left them an unexpected inheritance: They can now see ghosts just like she did. \nWhile Nat is totally on board to try to help some spirits find peace\, a ghostly calling is just not Maddie’s speed. So when history comes back to haunt their town\, and the story of a decades-old train crash rears its ugly head\, Maddie wants nothing to do with the ghosts of days long gone. But one ghost in particular won’t go away\, and Maddie might just be the only one with the power to help her—that is\, if she can survive the Night Train herself. \nIn this eerie tale by beloved author Lorelei Savaryn\, one girl’s determination to bring long-hidden secrets to light might just change her town—and herself—forever.

SUMMARY:BHB at the Spooky Market!
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Port of Film Fear Festival for their annual Spooky Market on Saturday\, September 14th between 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.! We will be selling our favorite horror novels\, as well as other creepy goods and gifts. Christina Henry\, author of “Horseman” and “The House that Horror Built” will be joining us from 1 to 4 p.m. for a meet and greet with readers! \nABOUT CHRISTINA HENRY \nChristina Henry is a horror and dark fantasy author whose works include “Near the Bone”\, “The Ghost Tree”\, “Looking Glass”\, “The Girl in Red”\, “The Mermaid”\, “Lost Boy”\, “Alice”\, “Red Queen” and the seven-book urban fantasy Black Wings series. \nShe enjoys running long distances\, reading anything she can get her hands on and watching movies with samurai\, zombies and/or subtitles in her spare time. She lives in Chicago with her husband and son. \nABOUT THE HORSEMAN \nIn this atmospheric\, terrifying novel that draws strongly from “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow\,” the author of “Alice” and “The Girl in Red” works her trademark magic\, spinning an engaging and frightening new story from a classic tale. \nEveryone in Sleepy Hollow knows about the Horseman\, but no one really believes in him. Not even Ben Van Brunt’s grandfather\, Brom Bones\, who was there when it was said the Horseman chased the upstart Crane out of town. Brom says that’s just legend\, the village gossips talking. \nMore than thirty years after those storied events\, the village is a quiet place. Fourteen-year-old Ben loves to play “Sleepy Hollow boys\,” reenacting the events Brom once lived through. But then Ben and a friend stumble across the headless body of a child in the woods near the village\, and the discovery makes Ben question everything the adults in Sleepy Hollow have ever said. Could the Horseman be real after all? Or does something even more sinister stalk the woods? \nABOUT THE HOUSE THAT BUILT HORROR \nA single mother working in the gothic mansion of a reclusive horror director stumbles upon terrifying secrets in the captivating new novel from the national bestselling author of “Good Girls Don’t Die” and “Horseman”. \nHarry Adams has always loved horror movies\, so it’s not a total coincidence that she took the job cleaning house for movie director Javier Castillo. His forbidding graystone Chicago mansion\, Bright Horses\, is filled from top to bottom with terrifying props and costumes\, as well as glittering awards from his career making films that thrilled audiences—until family tragedy and scandal forced him to vanish from the industry. \nJavier values discretion\, and Harry has always tried to clean the house immaculately\, keep her head down\, and keep her job safe—she needs the money to support her son. But then she starts hearing noises from behind a locked door. Noises that sound remarkably like a human voice calling for help\, even though Javier lives alone and never has visitors. Harry knows that not asking questions is a vital part of working for Javier\, but she soon finds that the sinister house may be home to secrets she can’t ignore.

SUMMARY:Madeline Martin in Kenosha!
DESCRIPTION:A mother and daughter struggle in wartime England\, in this heartwarming tale about the power of books that bring them together\, by the bestselling author of “The Last Bookstore in London”. \nJoin us on Saturday\, September 14th at 1 p.m. at the Simmons Library (711 59th Place) for a presentation and book signing with the author herself\, Madeline Martin as she celebrates the release of “The Booklover’s Library”! \nThis event is completely free but registration is required. Register at the “Buy Tickets” button below or at this link: https://blue-house-books.com/events/40260! \nCopies of “The Booklover’s Library” and other novels by the author will be available for purchase at the event or in advance at Blue House Books. \nABOUT THE BOOK: \nIn Nottingham\, England\, widow Emma Taylor finds herself in desperate need of a job. She and her beloved daughter Olivia have always managed just fine on their own\, but with the legal restrictions prohibiting widows with children from most employment opportunities\, she’s left with only one option: persuading the manageress at Boots’ Booklover’s Library to take a chance on her with a job. \nWhen the threat of war in England becomes a reality\, Olivia must be evacuated to the countryside. In the wake of being separated from her daughter\, Emma seeks solace in the unlikely friendships she forms with her neighbors and coworkers\, and a renewed sense of purpose through the recommendations she provides to the library’s quirky regulars. But the job doesn’t come without its difficulties. Books are mysteriously misshelved and disappearing and the work at the lending library forces her to confront the memories of her late father and the bookstore they once owned together before a terrible accident. \nAs the Blitz intensifies in Nottingham and Emma fights to reunite with her daughter\, she must learn to depend on her community and the power of literature more than ever to find hope in the darkest of times. \nABOUT THE AUTHOR: \nMadeline Martin is a New York Times\, USA TODAY\, and international bestselling author of historical fiction and historical romance with books that have been translated into over twenty different languages.

SUMMARY:Meet Brenda Novak in Kenosha!
DESCRIPTION:She left her hometown following a scandal—but family loyalty is dragging her back… \nJoin us on Thursday\, September 19th at 7 p.m. at the Blue House Books for a presentation and book signing with the author Brenda Novak as she celebrates the release of “The Banned Books Club”! To purchase tickets (book included) visit Brenda’s website: https://brendanovakstore.com/products/booktour. \nCopies of “The Banned Books Club” and other novels by the author will be available for purchase at the event or in advance at Blue House Books. \nABOUT THE BOOK: \nDespite their strained relationship\, when Gia Rossi’s sister\, Margot\, begs her to come home to Wakefield\, Iowa\, to help with their ailing mother\, Gia knows she has no choice. After her rebellious and at-times-tumultuous teen years\, Gia left town with little reason to look back. But she knows Margot’s borne the brunt of their mother’s care and now it’s Gia’s turn to help\, even if it means opening old wounds. \nAs expected\, Gia’s homecoming is far from welcome. There’s the Banned Books Club she started after the PTA overzealously slashed the high school reading list\, which is right where she left it. But there is also Mr. Hart\, her former favorite teacher. The one who was fired after Gia publicly and painfully accused him of sexual misconduct. The one who prompted Gia to leave behind a very conflicted town the minute she turned eighteen. The one person she hoped never to see again. \nWhen Margot leaves town without explanation\, Gia sees the cracks in her sister’s “perfect” life for the first time and plans to offer support. But as the town\, including members of the book club\, takes sides between Gia and Mr. Hart\, everything gets harder. Fortunately\, she learns that there are people she can depend on. And by standing up for the truth\, she finds love and a future in the town she thought had rejected her. \nABOUT THE AUTHOR: \nNew York Times bestselling author Brenda Novak has written over 80 novels. An eight-time Rita nominee\, she’s won The National Reader’s Choice\, The Bookseller’s Best and other awards. She runs Brenda Novak for the Cure\, a charity that has raised more than $2.5 million for diabetes research (her youngest son has this disease). She considers herself lucky to be a mother of five and married to the love of her life.
