SUMMARY:Crafts & Drafts: Indoor Maker's Market
DESCRIPTION:𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐬 & 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐬 is a new venture for us here at Public Brewing but one close to our hearts. Many of us here have and enjoy our own artistic endeavors outside of these walls so we look forward to providing a space for local artisans\, craftspeople\, and makers to showcase their work. \nCrafts & Drafts will occur monthly on select Sundays in our Brewhouse Lounge and Barrel Room from 11AM to 3PM. Enjoy some grub from our kitchen\, our normal run of beverages as well as Brewmosas and Beerchaladas as you sip and stroll through the vast array of vendors on hand. There is no fee to attend. \nWe do not charge vendor fees to be in attendance so all vendors will sell their goods and retain 100% of those sales to continue supporting their small business. We encourage everyone to shop local and Crafts & Drafts will continue supporting that idea monthly. \n𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐨𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐱@𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲.𝐜𝐨𝐦. SUMMARY:THE SNOWBIRDS: Christina Clancy in conversation with Rowan Beaird
DESCRIPTION:Explore the redemptive power of finding ourselves\, and of being found in “The Snowbirds” by Christina Clancy\, author of “The Second Home” and “Shoulder Season”! \n“The Snowbirds” feature restless people trying to figure out how—and where—they can feel at home in this world. Are they their best\, most authentic selves in a summer house in Cape Cod that holds their secrets and memories? In the small Wisconsin town where they grew up and made mistakes\, swearing never to return? Or maybe they can leave the cold of the Midwest to find themselves—and each other—in Palm Springs. \nJoin Christina at Church & Market (701 56th St) on Sunday\, March 9th at 2 p.m. as part of her book tour for “The Snowbirds”! Christina will be discussing her latest book with fellow women’s fiction author Rowan Beaird\, answering questions from the audience\, and signing books! \nThis is a ticketed event\, so make sure to grab your ticket before they run out! Grab your tickets here: https://www.blue-house-books.com/events/1466220250309 \nABOUT “THE SNOWBIRDS” \nKim and Grant are at a turning point. \nA couple for thirty years\, their “separate but together” partnership is running up against the realities of late middle age: Grant’s mother has died\, the college where he taught philosophy was shuttered\, and their twin girls are grown and gone. Escaping the bitter cold of a Midwestern winter for the hot desert sun of Palm Springs seems as good a solution as any to the more intractable problems they face. \nWhen they arrive at Le Desert\, a quirky condo community where everyone knows everyone’s business\, Kim immediately embraces the opportunity to make new friends and explore a more adventurous side of her personality. Meanwhile\, Grant struggles to find his footing in this unfamiliar landscape\, leaving Kim to wonder if their relationship can survive the snowbird season. But when Grant goes missing on a hike in the Palm Springs mountains\, Kim is forced to consider two terrifying outcomes: either Grant is truly lost\, or this time he’s really left her. \nIs it ever too late to become the person we wanted to be—and is there still time to change into someone better? The exhilarating\, but often confusing transitions of midlife are pitched against the promise and glamour of Palm Springs in this tender\, honest story of what it takes to commit to someone for a lifetime. With compassion and humor\, Clancy explores the redemptive power of finding ourselves\, and of being found. \nABOUT CHRISTINA CLANCY \nChristina Clancy is the author of “The Second Home” and “Shoulder Season”. Her work has also appeared in The New York Times\, The Washington Post\, The Chicago Tribune\, The Sun magazine\, and in various literary journals. She splits her time between Madison and Palm Springs. \nABOUT “THE DIVORCEES” \nLois Saunders thought that marrying the right man would finally cure her loneliness. But as picture-perfect as her husband is\, she is suffocating in their loveless marriage. In 1951\, though\, unhappiness is hardly grounds for divorce—except in Reno\, Nevada. \nAt the Golden Yarrow\, the most respectable of Reno’s famous “divorce ranches\,” Lois finds herself living with half a dozen other would-be divorcees\, all in Nevada for the six-weeks residency that is the state’s only divorce requirement. They spend their days riding horses and their nights flirting with cowboys\, and it’s as wild and fun as Lake Forest\, Illinois\, is prim and stifling. But it isn’t until Greer Lang arrives that Lois’s world truly cracks open. \nGorgeous\, beguiling\, and completely indifferent to societal convention\, Greer is unlike anyone Lois has ever met—and she sees something in Lois that no one else ever has. Under Greer’s influence\, Lois begins to push against the limits that have always restrained her. But how much can she really trust her mysterious new friend? And how far will she go to forge her independence on her own terms? \nSet in the glamorous\, dizzying world of 1950s Reno\, where housewives and movie stars rubbed shoulders at gin-soaked casinos\, “The Divorcées” is a riveting page-turner and a dazzling exploration of female friendship\, desire\, and freedom. \nABOUT ROWAN BEAIRD \nRowan Beaird is a fiction writer whose work has appeared in The Kenyon Review\, The Southern Review\, and The Common\, among others. She is the recipient of the Ploughshares Emerging Writer Award\, and her work has been nominated for a Pushcart. She has received scholarships from the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and StoryStudio\, and she currently works at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her first novel\, “The Divorcées”\, was named a best book of 2024 by Elle\, People\, and the Chicago Review of Books.

SUMMARY:PASSING THROUGH A PRAIRIE COUNTRY: Dennis Staples in conversation with Christina Henry
DESCRIPTION:Join Dennis Staples at Blue House Books on Thursday\, March 20th at 6:30 p.m. as part of his book release for “Passing Through a Prairie Country”! Dennis will be discussing his latest book with fellow horror writer Christina Henry (“Good Girls Don’t Die”)\, answering questions from the audience\, and signing books! \nThe event is free\, but registration is required. Register here: https://www.blue-house-books.com/events/1719820250320 \nABOUT PASSING THROUGH A PRAIRIE COUNTRY:\nFor decades\, a dark force has terrorized the Languille Lake reservation. Only spoken of in whispers as “the sandman\,” he lurks in the Hidden Atlantis Lake Resort and Casino\, the reservation’s main attraction and source of revenue\, leeching its patrons’ dreams and ambitions and also preventing the ghosts that linger there from moving on. Fleeing a breakup\, Marion Lafournier\, a mid-twenties Ojibwe\, seeks solace in the slot machine’s siren song. Here he falls afoul of the sandman\, an encounter Marion barely escapes through the timely intervention of his cousins Alana and Cherie\, who both work at the casino and are intimately aware of the sandman’s power. Meanwhile\, Glenn Nielan\, only recently out of the closet and an aspiring documentarian\, hopes to capture the faces of the Ojibwe land while experiencing the casino’s thrills. But he will learn that all who choose to play the sandman’s games are in danger of falling into his grasp.\nMarion and Alana are members of the Bullhead clan\, a family with ties to a sacred past and a fierce determination to ensure their future. Alana\, with her seven-fire sight\, is the only person to fully grasp the danger the sandman poses. Aware of Marion’s occasional ability to navigate the spirit world\, she enlists his aid in defeating this wraith. But the power and reach of the sandman go far beyond Alana’s worst fears. Soon she and Marion find themselves in a battle for their lives and for the souls of the reservation’s residents\, both the living and the dead. \nABOUT DENNIS STAPLES:\nDennis E. Staples is an Ojibwe writer from Bemidji\, Minnesota\, and the author of “This Town Sleeps”. He holds an MFA in fiction from the Institute of American Indian Arts and is a graduate of the 2018 Clarion West Writers Workshop and a recipient of the Octavia E. Butler Memorial Scholarship. His work has appeared in “Asimov’s Science Fiction” and “Nightmare magazine”. He is a member of the Red Lake Nation. \nABOUT CHRISTINA HENRY:\nChristina Henry is a horror and dark fantasy author whose works include “Horseman”\, “Near the Bone”\, “The Ghost Tree”\, “Looking Glass”\, “The Girl in Red”\, “The Mermaid”\, “Lost Boy”\, “Alice”\, “Red Queen”\, and the seven-book urban fantasy Black Wings series.\nShe enjoys running long distances\, reading anything she can get her hands on\, and watching movies with samurai\, zombies\, and/or subtitles in her spare time. She lives in Chicago with her husband and son. Learn more online at www.christinahenry.net.

SUMMARY:THE UNLUCKY ONES Release Party with Hannah Morrissey

Hannah will be talking about Hazel’s return to Black Harbor\, and she’ll provide a sneak peak of what other Black Harbor characters will be center stage in the latest series installment! \nBy attending\, you will receive your copy of “The Unlucky Ones” before the release date\, and you will have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A\, meet the authors\, grab a photo\, and get your book(s) signed! \nYou won’t want to miss this celebration of your favorite crime thriller series!\nGet all the details and your ticket here: https://www.blue-house-books.com/events/1415320250324 \nAbout “THE UNLUCKY ONES” \nA police transcriber-turned-novelist returns to Black Harbor to help solve the case of her ex-husband’s murder in the next riveting Black Harbor\, featuring the return of characters from Hannah Morrissey’s breakout debut\, Hello\, Transcriber. \nBlack Harbor is a tinderbox. Temperatures and violent crime have both risen to all-time highs\, a new drug razes the city\, and the scene to which Sergeant Nikolai Kole responds is anything but a rote homicide. In the back of a clubhouse lies a body wrapped in garbage bags and doused in bleach.\nIt isn’t just any body. Tommy Greenlee\, the ex-husband of Kole’s former lover\, Hazel\, has been shot several times and left for dead. What’s more…the killer left what appears to be a calling card. Elsewhere\, Hazel is haunted by her memories of Black Harbor. Lured there after eight years\, she returns to find out who killed Tommy and why. \nNow back in Kole’s orbit\, their love affair can hardly pick up where it left off. They both used each other to their own ends before\, which begs the question: would they do it again? \nWith the atmosphere growing more volatile by the second\, Hazel and Kole call a truce\, and as they work together to solve this murder\, they will not only unearth Black Harbor’s deepest\, darkest secrets—they’ll each have to face their own. \nABOUT HANNAH MORRISSEY \nHannah Morrissey is the author of the Black Harbor suspense series which includes “Hello\, Transcriber”\, “The Widowmaker”\, “When I’m Dead”\, and releasing in March 2025\, “The Unlucky Ones”. A three-decade survivor of Wisconsin winters\, Hannah enjoys putting her characters (and readers) in bone-chilling atmospheres that permeate beyond the page. Naturally\, her books have carved out their own sub-genre of “Midwestern Noir.” \nHannah graduated from the University of Wisconsin – Madison where she majored in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing. She grew up in a small northern town and now lives near Milwaukee with her husband\, three pugs\, and a TBR pile that never seems to get any smaller. \nABOUT “LONG TIME GONE” \nWhen DNA results reveal a disturbing connection to the mysterious disappearance of a famous baby nearly three decades ago\, a woman’s search for answers draws her to an ominous small town in Nevada and a dangerous web of corruption\, power\, and lies in this engrossing\, propulsive new novel from the internationally bestselling author of Twenty Years Later. \nOn the first day of an elite two-year fellowship under the renowned Chief Medical Officer Dr. Livia Cutty\, Sloan Hastings receives a research assignment in the emerging field of forensic genealogy. It’s the exciting\, rapidly evolving science behind the recent breaks in high-profile cold cases from the Golden State Killer to the Cameron Young murder\, and Sloan enthusiastically begins her research by submitting her own DNA to an online genealogy site. Her goal is to better understand the treasure trove of genetic information contained on ancestry websites\, but the results she receives are shocking.\nRaised by loving\, supportive parents\, Sloan has always known she was adopted. But her DNA profile suggests her true identity is that of Charlotte Margolis\, aka “Baby Charlotte\,” who captured the nation’s attention when she and her affluent parents mysteriously vanished in July 1995. Despite a large-scale investigation and months of broad media coverage\, there were never any suspects in the family’s disappearance and the case has been cold for decades. \nRacing to stay ahead of the media and true crime junkies ravenous to know what really happened to Baby Charlotte\, Sloan’s search for answers leads her to Cedar Creek\, Nevada\, a small town north of Lake Tahoe. There\, the Margolis family’s power and influence permeate every corner of the county\, and while Sloan’s birth relatives are initially welcoming\, they’re also mysterious and tight-lipped.
