SUMMARY:The Fool's Journey: A Tarot Workshop of Major Arcana & the Tarot Deck
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop local tarot expert Connie Kicks will guide you through The Fool’s Journey of the Major Arcana of the Tarot deck. \nThe Fool’s Journey is a metaphor for the journey through life. We will then calculate your birth and year card and look at the attributes of these cards and how they relate to you. \nA birth card is based on your date of birth. Tarot birth cards are a combination of two to three Major Arcana cards that outlines your core identity and approach to life. Tarot birth cards are calculated based on your birth date and use numerology as the basis of how to calculate your Tarot birth card pairing. Your Birth card represents your journey and what you cannot avoid. \nIn the first half of the workshop Connie will teach a history of tarot and more about the deck\, and the second half will be hands on with your tarot deck and Connie’s guidance. \nYou will leave this workshop with a clear understanding of the Major Arcana and how it can affect our personal lives and the lives of those around us. \nPlus\, you will receive a discount on all tarot products! \nTICKETS \nOption A: Ticket to the workshop plus a tarot deck included\nOption B: Ticket to the workshop\, tarot deck not included- must bring your own \nABOUT CONNIE \nConnie is a professional Diviner who combines intuition with psychic impressions to deliver messages that will help you connect with your Highest Good. She will never sugar coat a reading and will always stay true to herself as well as the cards. \nTarot’s Magic has given Connie wings. While she reads for clients\, she has discovered her real passion for teaching the magic and hosts a monthly workshop in the Chicagoland area as well as in Milwaukee and Kenosha WI. The best part of teaching for Connie is seeing the transformations that occur in her students and guiding them to find their own magical wings. \nYou will walk away from a reading or workshop with Connie with increased confidence\, insight and renewed purpose

SUMMARY:BEAST OF THE NORTH WOODS: Annelise Ryan in Kenosha
DESCRIPTION:Morgan Carter is back in the latest Monster Hunter Mystery series\, “Beast of the North Woods”! When a local fisherman is mauled to death\, it seems like the only possible cause is a mythical creature in the latest puzzling entry in this USA Today bestselling series. \nJoin Annelise Ryan at Blue House Books on Thursday\, January 30th at 7 p.m. as part of her book tour for “Beast of the North Woods”! Annelise will be discussing her latest book with fellow Wisconsin author Amy Pease (“Northwoods”)\, answering questions from the audience\, and signing books! \nThis is a ticketed event\, so make sure to grab your ticket before they run out! \nABOUT ANNELISE RYAN: \nAnnelise Ryan is a pseudonym for the Wisconsin-based author of the Monster Hunter Mystery series\, the first of which\, “A Death in Door County”\, was released in September 2022. The second book in the series\, “Death in the Dark Woods”\, came out in December of 2023 and book #3\, “Beast of the North Woods” is set for release on January 28\, 2025. \nAnnelise also penned the rib-tickling 12- book Mattie Winston Mystery series featuring the adventures of a wryly cynical nurse-turned-coroner in a small Wisconsin town and the spin-off Helping Hands Mysteries. \nAs Allyson K. Abbott\, she authored a 6-book series known as the Mack’s Bar Mysteries (a bit of cheeky fun there with the initials on that nom de plume!) \nAnd as Beth Amos\, she has written more than 200 published articles\, worked as a book reviewer for Barnes & Noble\, and written five thrillers\, three of which were published by HarperCollins in the late ’90s. She is an active member of Mystery Writers of America\, Sisters in Crime\, and International Thriller Writers. \nShe is a registered nurse whose past work experience has included everything from birth (obstetrics) to death (hospice). She recently retired after spending her last 20 years working in the ER. \nABOUT BEAST OF THE NORTH WOODS: \nAn ice fisherman is savagely mauled to death in Rhinelander\, Wisconsin\, and an eyewitness claims the man was attacked by a hodag. There’s just one problem with that: it’s well known that the creature is not real and was created by a local hoaxer. So how could an imaginary creature be chomping on local sportsmen? \nThe suggestion that a hodag killed someone isn’t well received by the townsfolk because of its beloved ties to the town and the money it generates from tourist dollars. Due to this\, people begin to suspect the witness is the real killer\, especially when it’s discovered he has a tangled past with the victim. \nThe witness to the attack happens to be the nephew of Morgan Carter’s bookstore employee\, Rita Bosworth\, who convinces the professional cryptozoologist to travel to Wisconsin to prove that a hodag not only exists but killed the victim. \nClues may be hard to come by\, but one thing’s for sure: something killed that man\, and that something now has its eyes focused on Morgan. \nABOUT AMY PEASE: \nAmy Pease is an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin and the Madison Writer’s Studio\, and works as a nurse practitioner\, where she is a nationally recognized HIV specialist. She lives in Wisconsin with her husband and two children. “Northwoods” is her first novel. \n“Northwoods” is a tale of the dark underbelly of an idyllic Midwestern resort town is revealed in the aftermath of a murder with ties to America’s opioid epidemic in this unputdownable and thrilling debut that is perfect for fans of James Lee Burke\, William Kent Krueger\, and Mindy Mejia.

SUMMARY:LET'S CALL HER BARBIE: Renee Rosen in conversation with Melanie Benjamin
DESCRIPTION:She was only eleven-and-a-half inches tall\, but she would change the world. Barbie is born in this bold new novel by “USA Today” bestselling author Renée Rosen. \nJoin Renee Rosen at Blue House Books on Wednesday\, February 12th at 7 p.m. to celebrate her newest historical fiction novel\, “Let’s Call Her Barbie”! Renee will be discussing her book with fellow Midwest author Melanie Benjamin (“The Children’s Blizzard”)\, where she will go into detail about her research into American’s feminist icon\, answer questions from the audience\, and sign books! \nThis event is free\, but registration is required. Get all the details and RSVP here: https://www.blue-house-books.com/events/1603520250212 \nAbout “LET’S CALL HER BARBIE”: \nWhen Ruth Handler walks into the boardroom of the toy company she co-founded and pitches her idea for a doll unlike any other\, she knows what she’s setting in motion. It might just take the world a moment to catch up. \nIn 1956\, the only dolls on the market for little girls let them pretend to be mothers. Ruth’s vision for a doll shaped like a grown woman and outfitted in an enviable wardrobe will let them dream they can be anything. \nAs Ruth assembles her team of creative rebels—head engineer Jack Ryan who hides his deepest secrets behind his genius and designers Charlotte Johnson and Stevie Klein\, whose hopes and dreams rest on the success of Barbie’s fashion—she knows they’re working against a ticking clock to get this wild idea off the ground. \nIn the decades to come—through soaring heights and devastating personal lows\, public scandals and private tensions— each of them will have to decide how tightly to hold on to their creation. Because Barbie has never been just a doll—she’s a legacy. \nAbout RENEE ROSEN: \nRenee Rosen is a “USA Today” bestselling author. Her novels include “Let’s Call Her Barbie”\, “Fifth Avenue Glamour Girl”\, “The Social Graces” and “Park Avenue Summer” as well as others. Her books have been translated into over a dozen languages. She lives in Chicago and is currently working on a new novel. To learn more\, visit her website at www.reneerosen.com \nAbout “THE CHILDREN’S BLIZZARD”: \nThe morning of January 12\, 1888\, was unusually mild\, following a punishing cold spell. It was warm enough for the homesteaders of the Dakota Territory to venture out again\, and for their children to return to school without their heavy coats—leaving them unprepared when disaster struck. At the hour when most prairie schools were letting out for the day\, a terrifying\, fast-moving blizzard blew in without warning. Schoolteachers as young as sixteen were suddenly faced with life and death decisions: Keep the children inside\, to risk freezing to death when fuel ran out\, or send them home\, praying they wouldn’t get lost in the storm? \nBased on actual oral histories of survivors\, this gripping novel follows the stories of Raina and Gerda Olsen\, two sisters\, both schoolteachers—one becomes a hero of the storm and the other finds herself ostracized in the aftermath. It’s also the story of Anette Pedersen\, a servant girl whose miraculous survival serves as a turning point in her life and touches the heart of Gavin Woodson\, a newspaperman seeking redemption. It was Woodson and others like him who wrote the embellished news stories that lured northern European immigrants across the sea to settle a pitiless land. Boosters needed them to settle territories into states\, and they didn’t care what lies they told these families to get them there—or whose land it originally was. \nAt its heart\, this is a story of courage\, of children forced to grow up too soon\, tied to the land because of their parents’ choices. It is a story of love taking root in the hard prairie ground\, and of families being torn asunder by a ferocious storm that is little remembered today—because so many of its victims were immigrants to this country. \nAbout MELANIE BENJAMIN: \nMelanie Benjamin is the author of the “New York Times” and “USA Today” bestselling historical novels “The Swans of Fifth Avenue”\, about Truman Capote and his society swans\, “The Aviator’s Wife”\, a novel about Anne Morrow Lindbergh\, and “The Children’s Blizzard”\, a gripping tale of survival and forgiveness amidst a devastating\, real-life blizzard that hit the Great Plains on the afternoon of January 12\, 1888. Other historical novels include “The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb”\, “The Girls in the Picture”\, “Mistress of the Ritz” and “California Golden”. She lives in Chicago.
